Cuba Trip #4
Day 5 (Actually 6 if you count pre-party as Day 1)
Key West !!
so i had to wake Jimmy Boy up at 6 am....his door was ajar and i turned on his light...he was WHITE as a Ghost !! Oh NO, I killed Jim the Counselor....lol
Apparently he later told me that he inhaled the Cuban Cigar...oops and was NOT feeling well when he went to bed...dam shame
Anyways i allowed him 30 more minutes of sleep figuring that the Cuban trip had finally gotten to him.
at 6:30 am i knocked on this door...and after a quick trip to the Bathroom...Jimmy had his color back...Thank God !!
Off we went to Key West !! Bradley had loan us her Toll Pass so we were able to take the Fla Turnpike and avoid Miami traffic. We got down to the "Start of the Keys" around Homestead in about 1.5 hr and a McDonald's stop for breakfast and coffee and Bano.
Then we got to the Keys....the water was beautiful. We started seeing signs for some Souvenir store 4 t-shirts for $10...we'll have to stop THERE on the way home...lol
Got all the way down to Key West...is that ALL THERE IS ?? I have been down here about 10 times over my 40 years of living in Florida....my best trip was with my college friends Uncle Freddie (RIP) and Mike Bezner...two "walk-ons" to the JU basketball team...they were in MY wedding and i was in theirs
We drove through "downtown"...don't wink or you'll miss it...and the obligatory stop by Papa Hemingway's House
Made our way to park one block away from the Famous "90 miles to Cuba" Buoy...and a picture of Jim with the tourist magnet....i was amazed there was a LINE about 100 people deep waiting to stand NEXT to the Buoy...we just walked by it and i snapped some pictures
We walked down "main st" and found this little French Restaurant with a Second Floor outside dining area....but the Owner/lady of 30 years said upstairs was by reservation only, she did find us a window table (opened up to the outside and sidewalk traffic) and Jim and I had a Ball interacting with pass-er-byes who would ask us "How is the Food" ?
then we headed back to Miami...but wait a quick stop at local beach for Jimmy to get HIS swim in....Jim said the water in Cuba was better !! (mission accomplished)
we were trying to meet Xavier at 4 pm in downtown/apartment but the traffic was just too heavy....so we had to skip the visit and take the Turnpike back to Ft Lauderdale...I passed out for an hour on the bed and Jim went for a bike ride
Austin arrived for Dinner and we had a nice visit by David Pickering my high school classmate and basketball teammate....he brought the old high school sports paper clippings album...and we reministed for hours
