Cuba Trip #4
Day 4
(Post Party)

Jim and I rented a car at Miami Airport....our first adventure was tying to get to I-95 WITHOUT using a Toll Road....we did not pay extra for the Toll Pass and there is a $60 administrative fee if the Rental Car place gets a "mail toll charge"...Jim got a GREAT deal on a car using Costco...he saved $50

The iphone GPS kept trying to send us to the Toll Road...so i finally had to turn it off...and use my common sense to get us through the Overtown neighborhood that at one time was called Color Town and later Brownville.  It is now called Overtown because the Interstate 95 runs Over the town.  This is also the Overtown of the 1980 riots.  GREAT !!  In some place it looks as bad as Havana.

We finally get to Steve Kitchens house in Ft Lauderdale.  Steve taught and coached at Berkeley 1979-1982.  I lived in his house in Tampa for two years before i got married in 1981.  He has a PhD in Divinity and a Headmaster of a Baptist School called Westin Christian School.

It was so relaxing to reach "Camp Bel Aire" (where my boys and i play all kinds of sports with Uncle Stevie)....Steve Kitchens also went with me and my boys to Cuba in 2010, so he understands my feelings.  He has also gone back TWICE with his church groups to Cuba.

Bradley cooked up a storm while we waited for Austin and Andrea.  Austin has been working in Ft Lauderdale and Andrea drove down from Tampa to visit Austin for the weekend.

We had a wonderful feast and talked about our trip to Cuba.  And we asked Austin and Andrea about their wedding plans and honeymoon to Costa Rica.  Steve and Bradley are coming to the wedding in Tampa April 6.  Luck would have it they also got married on April 6,  2002 (04-06-02) and they also went to Costa Rica for THEIR honeymoon.

We retired to the back yard and poolside while smoking some Cohiba's that i brought for Austin's bachelor party with Brandon and Austin's friends.  It was Great sipping on some Rum and talking trash about the good old days in Tampa and Berkeley.  The ladies joined us AFTER we finished the cigars.
